When should your car be serviced?
You need to take good care of your car, just like you would your body. A vehicle needs regular maintenance to keep it moving and increase its lifespan. Your vehicle is an important asset too; so taking care of it will save you a lot of money and retain its value.
These days, most modern cars pop a light on the dashboard to remind you that it is due for a service, but what if your vehicle is a few years old and doesn’t have these features?
6-Months or 5,000km
The basic rule is to service your car every six months or 5,000km. Even if you are not doing the kilometres, it is still essential to service your car regularly because fuel quality, heat and dust heavily affect your car's performance.
Noises or Breakdowns
If you start hearing unusual noises from your car, it's time to get it looked at. Delaying it could be making matters worse. Listen out for squeaks, rubbing or clunking noises, especially when going over bumps, steering, or braking. They could all indicate a potential problem.
Oil Change
When engine oil hasn't been changed for a long time it has changed from clear yellow to thick black full of deposits. If you find your car is using more oil than usual, or there's black smoke from the exhaust, bring the car to Kwik-Fit to be assessed.
Fluids
Coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid and transmission fluid should be checked regularly. A leak can affect the way your car drives. If you spot a leak, try to identify the colour to help speed up the repair process.
Road Trip
